LIBERATION Theology

YOU ARE NOT A SINNER!

Yes, I know, that is a striking statement especially when you read scripture like this,

Romans 3:23 ESV,
"for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,"

This text is true but it describes WHAT we have done not WHO we are.

Sure we have all done things wrong!
We are all guilty of doing some things that we may even be shamed of.

We are not innocent of doing things displeasing, horrible and sinful, but the truth is we are still not sinners.

Sinner is not who we are, that's just the label we have been given; our identity is different!
Identity is not defined by what we do, but rather who's we are.

Even though you have done many wrong things, we are not defined by them.

Many of us have been told that we are sinners saved by grace, but that's not our identity!
Though we are saved by Grace according to the Word of God,

In Ephesians 2:8-9 ESV,
"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast."

The word of God also tells us in what capacity we are described as sinners.

In 1 Timothy 1:12-17 ESV,
"I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners (by their actions not identity), of whom I am the foremost.  But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life. To the King of the ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen."

It tells us that Jesus came to save those who commit sinful actions, to save those who are victimized by sin in our world.

The sins we have commented and in some cases still do are due to the fact that we are victims.

David said it clearly, in Psalm 51,
"Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity,
and in sin did my mother conceive me."

Sin is the condition thrust on us at birth. We did not have a choice in the matter, that is victimization. Sin is forced on us whether we like it or not. We are victims of Sin. We are born into a sinful environment and with a tendency to sin but still we are children of God.

In 1 John 3:1 ESV,
"See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him."

SIN IS WHAT WE DO, NOT WHO WE ARE

We are Children of God! You are a Child of God.

Do not let what is done to you or by you, become apart of who you are

The Israelites are not slaves, they were enslaved by the Egyptians.
Africans are not slaves, they were enslaved by Europeans and Americans.

When enslaved by others your identity becomes distorted.
When enslaved by others your behavior becomes damaging.
You begin to act out of character and you begin to reflect the nature of your abuser.

If someone has been verbally abused as a child, they tend to be verbally abusive to others; not by innate nature but by learned behavior.

WE ARE NOT SINNERS, SIN WAS DONE TO US!

YOU ARE NOT A SINNER, YOU ARE A VICTIM OF SIN.
SIN WAS DONE TO YOU

You may have been sexually assaulted but it doesn’t mean that you are now sexually corrupt.

You may have been violated but it doesn’t make your life a violation.

Your worth is not determined by what has been done to you but rather what has been done for you.

WE HAVE ALL BEEN VICTIMS AND WE HAVE ALL PLAYED THE VILLAN

BUT THAT’S NOT OUR TRUE IDENTITY

WE ARE CHILDREN OF GOD, CREATED BY HIM, FOR HIM.

In Ephesians 2:10 ESV,
"For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

THE METHOD OF OUR LIBERATION IS AN INDICATOR OF OUR WORTH

We are Miraculously LIBERATED due to our DIVINE worth!

The Devil and his evil angels have been abusing mankind for a long time with lies, fear, sickness, and death. The good news is that the Devil, our abuser has been defeated. We are no longer enslaved to him and his sinful ways. Jesus has LIBERATED us from the devil's sinful and abusive ways.

It is because you are a child of God, that Jesus came and died for you.
As a loving parent, God cares for his children.

God loves you and doesn't see you by your sinful actions.
God sees you as His very own child.
God loves you and wants to LIBERATE you from your sinful struggles.

Will you let him?
Do you desire to be LIBERATED from your sinful past, present and future?
Do you desire to be baptized and start your journey with Jesus?
